Court Delays Verdict on Rabi Lamichhane's Two Charges in Nepali Nationalist Party Case

Mar 19, Kathmandu - The hearing into two charges against Rabi Lamichhane, the leader of the RSP, has remained unresolved after four days of deliberation. The Supreme Court bench, comprising Justices Sharangasubedi and Sunil Pokhrel, ordered the Ministry of Attorney General to retrieve the latest decision regarding the amendment of charges and related documents.

Initially, the Attorney General’s Office revised the charges against Lamichhane, removing allegations of organized crime and money laundering, and decided not to pursue charges related to cooperative fraud against all co-accused linked to him on February 15. However, the court noted that the related files and documents were not submitted in the case record.

The bench instructed that if there are any additional relevant documents, they should also be obtained, with a new hearing scheduled for March 23. The court clarified that it will proceed with the hearing once the updated files are received.

Justice Pokhrel, who previously argued from Lamichhane’s side, requested that the court not hear the case. However, the bench decided to continue with the proceedings despite this objection.
Both parties presented arguments over the past four days, with the respondent's rebuttal concluding on Thursday. The court’s order to retrieve and review the missing documents has reset the hearing to the beginning, leaving the case unresolved for now.
