Renu Dahal's Election Expenditure in Chitwan-3 is More than Sobita's

Mar 20, Kathmandu - In the recent House of Representatives election held on Falgun 21, Renu Dahal, the candidate from CPN (UML), disclosed her campaign expenditure for Chitwan-3. According to her financial report, Dahal spent a total of approximately NPR 1,466,670 during her election campaign.

Dahal, who resigned from the mayoral position of Bharatpur Metropolitan City to contest the parliamentary seat, was ultimately defeated by her opponent, Sovita Gautam. Gautam secured 59,277 votes and emerged victorious, while Dahal finished second with 38,662 votes.

In terms of campaign finances, Dahal's expenses surpassed Gautam’s. Gautam reported spending NPR 993,045, which is nearly NPR 470,000 less than Dahal's expenditure.

The largest portion of Dahal’s campaign budget went toward transportation, with NPR 300,000 spent on two vehicles over 15 days. Additional expenditures included NPR 280,000 on ward-level campaigning, NPR 141,000 on banners, posters, and flags, and another NPR 141,000 on sample ballots and leaflets.

Other campaign-related expenses included NPR 113,500 on promotional materials, NPR 130,000 on training election representatives, and NPR 53,200 on food and water for campaign workers.

While Sobita Gautam spent NPR 993,045 on her campaign, Renu Dahal invested a significantly higher amount of NPR 1,466,670 in her bid for the Chitwan-3 parliamentary seat.
