Continuous Rainfall Causes Road Blockages on East-West and Siddhartha Highways

Mar 21, Kathmandu - Due to continuous heavy rainfall, both the East-West Highway and Siddhartha Highway have been blocked. According to the Road Safety and Traffic Management Office in Butwal, the Daunne section of the East-West Highway has become slippery because of the rain, leading to a complete halt of vehicles in both directions. Additionally, the Siddhartha Highway is also obstructed. Early morning rainfall caused landslides with mud and rocks in Siddhartha area, further blocking the roads.

Following the blockage in Daunne, vehicles have been diverted via the Palpa route. However, with the Palpa-Bhutwal road also being blocked, travelers are stranded. The rainy weather has made the roads muddy and slippery, preventing vehicles from climbing the incline in Daunne, causing traffic to halt midway. Until the roads dry up or become passable, it is unlikely that traffic will resume in Duwane. As a result, hundreds of travelers remain stranded mid-road.

Since Friday, Nepal's weather has seen a shift, prompting authorities to ban large freight vehicles from operating during night hours in the Duwane area for three days. The ongoing road widening work, combined with the heavy rains and cold weather, has repeatedly caused the roads to become slippery and blocked.

The Western Section Office of the Road Project announced that from Friday to Sunday, vehicle movement would be restricted between Dumi Bazar, Duwane, and Bardaghat from 7 PM to 5 AM to ensure safety during construction and adverse weather conditions.
