Jewelry theft in Kalopul: Two arrested with weapons

Mar 22, Kathmandu - Police have arrested two individuals in connection with a theft involving gold and jewelry from a room in Kalopul, Kathmandu.

The suspects are 23-year-old Upendra Khatri from Buddhanilkantha Municipality-2 in Kathmandu and 26-year-old Niraj Sapkota from Gauriganga Municipality-2 in Kailali.

According to authorities, on Chait 6, a theft occurred at a house in Kalopul, Kathmandu, where approximately 26 tolas of gold jewelry worth over eight ounces, along with silver ornaments valued at NPR 33,000, cash of NPR 10,000, and foreign currency worth NPR 45,000, were stolen.

During the investigation, police arrested Khatri and Sapkota on the night of Chaitra 7, around 9:50 PM, District Police Office Kathmandu SP Pawan Kumar Bhattarai confirmed.

Items recovered from their possession include various jewelry, a khukuri (traditional knife), iron rods, swords, NPR 249,000 in cash, and a scooter used during the theft.
