Tensions Escalate in Israel Amid Rising Iranian Missile Attacks: Nepali Community on Edge

Mar 22, Kathmandu - Recent days have seen a significant escalation in missile and ballistic missile attacks from Iran, leading to a tense and dangerous situation in Israel, according to reports from the Nepali community residing there.

The intensity of attacks has increased notably since yesterday, causing widespread fear among civilians. While Nepali residents have so far remained safe, concerns over security and safety are mounting as attacks continue to escalate.

According to Ali Muhammad Miyan, a member of NRN Israel (Non-Resident Nepali Association Israel) ICC, the number of missile attacks has surged compared to previous days. Cities in southern Israel, such as Arad, and northern regions like Dimona, along with the capital area of Tel Aviv, have experienced continuous missile strikes. Israel’s missile defense system appears to be weaker than before, raising alarm among residents.

Earlier today, the southern region, including Ramot Gann and Petah Tikva, was hit multiple times, resulting in injuries to several individuals. Despite the ongoing attacks, there have been no reports of direct impact on the Nepali community so far, but the situation remains increasingly risky.

Most homes and workplaces in Israel are equipped with bomb shelters or cellars, but not all Nepali residents can access or use them effectively. Elderly and disabled Nepalis, especially those responsible for caregiving, find it difficult to reach shelters immediately after sirens sound. Many are also unable to leave their workplaces for safety, which puts caregivers and vulnerable individuals at risk.

Israeli authorities issue a warning approximately ten minutes before an attack via siren, giving residents a brief window to seek shelter. However, many find it challenging to reach safety within this limited time.
The continuous barrage of missile attacks has spread fear among the general populace and the Nepali community alike. Experts warn that if the conflict persists for a long time, the situation could become even more complicated and dangerous.

The Non-Resident Nepali Association (NRNA) Israel has urged Nepali residents facing difficulties to stay in contact and take necessary precautions. With Israel and Iran’s conflict reaching a critical point, the Nepali community is advised to exercise high security alertness. In case of any issues, they are encouraged to inform NRNA immediately.
