Mar 22, Kathmandu - Tribhuvan Army Club kicked off the Prime Minister Cup one-day national cricket tournament with a commanding 22-run victory over Nepal Police Club at the Lower Mulipani Ground.
Winning the toss and electing to bat, Army posted a competitive total of 243 runs for the loss of 8 wickets in their 47 overs. In response, Police were all out for 221 in 45.3 overs, falling short by 22 runs.
Army’s top scorer was all-rounder Vashir Ahmad, who played a match-winning century — his second of the ongoing tournament — with an impressive 86-ball innings featuring 8 fours and 2 sixes. Openers Trirat Raj Das and Imran Sheikh contributed 13 and 10 runs respectively, while Captain Arif Sheikh scored 38. Other notable contributions included Arjun Saud with 10 runs.
For Nepal Police, Rashid Khan top-scored with a half-century, smashing 60 runs off 82 balls, including 5 fours and 2 sixes. Shankar Rana added 46 runs, and Arif Sheikh, Gulsan Jha, Karan K.C., and Shrawan Yadav chipped in with smaller scores.
Army’s bowling attack was led by Naren Saud, who took 3 wickets, followed by Akash Chand and Sulaiman Malla with 2 wickets each, and Sahib Alam, Basir Ahamad, and Pawan Karki taking one wicket apiece. Basir Ahamad’s century was a highlight of the match, making him the second player to score a century in this edition of the Prime Minister’s Cup — the first being Asif Sheikh of APF on the same day at the same ground.
In the bowling department for Police, Shravan Yadav claimed 3 wickets, while Sagar Dhakal and Rasid Khan took 2 wickets each, and Lalit Rajbanshi took 1.
