Iran holds talks with US, Trump says – We will not immediately attack power plants

Mar 23, Kathmandu - In a surprising turn of events, the United States and Iran reportedly held constructive talks over the weekend, leading to a temporary suspension of planned attacks on Iranian energy facilities.

U.S. President Donald Trump announced that, following these discussions, he has decided to postpone an imminent strike on Iran’s power plants. According to CNN, the U.S. will refrain from bombing Iranian energy infrastructure for at least five days.

“I am pleased to share that the United States and Iran have engaged in constructive talks over the past two days,” Trump said. “These discussions have been positive and focused on achieving peace in the Middle East.”

In light of these talks, Trump also directed the Defense Department to hold off on any attacks on Iran’s energy facilities for the next five days, marking a shift from his previous stance. Earlier, Trump had issued a 48-hour ultimatum threatening strikes on Iran’s energy infrastructure, which Iran had warned would lead to retaliation at the Strait of Hormuz.

Following Trump’s announcement, stock markets surged while oil prices stabilized. According to BBC, in an effort to promote peace in the Middle East, crude oil prices for Brent Crude fell by 13%, dropping to $96 per barrel. The FTSE 100 index increased by 0.5%, recovering from a 2% decline earlier. Gas prices also experienced a decline amid the market rally.

Analysts are watching closely to see if these diplomatic efforts will de-escalate tensions in the region and stabilize global markets.
