Newly Appointed Finance Minister Swarnim Wagle Made Three Important Decisions

Mar 27, Kathmandu - Swarnim Wagle has officially taken charge as Nepal's newly appointed Finance Minister. The lawmaker representing Tanahun-2 swore the oath of office before the President on Friday and promptly assumed his responsibilities at the Ministry of Finance.

In his first steps as Finance Minister, Wagle outlined three immediate key decisions aimed at steering the country’s economic recovery and reform agenda. He announced plans to release an economic status report, abolish 15 outdated laws, and craft a comprehensive roadmap for economic and legal reforms.

Wagle emphasized the urgency of preparing the economic status report up to Chaitra 12, 2082, which will serve as the foundation for implementing election promises through a 100-day action plan, along with semi-annual and annual strategic plans.

Furthermore, he revealed plans to revoke 15 laws including those pertaining to revenue investigation that are deemed obsolete, based on recommendations from the High-Level Economic Reform Advisory Committee 2081.

The Minister also committed to developing new legislation or amending existing laws to promote private enterprise, ensure business security, and facilitate large-scale development projects, paving the way for broad-based economic and legal reforms.

Key Priorities:

  1. Immediate Preparation of 'Financial Status Report' up to Chaitra 12, 2082 and develop a 100-day, semi-annual and annual action plan for the implementation of the election promise.
  2. Abolish 15 laws, including the Revenue Investigation Department, based on recommendations from the 2081 economic reform report.
  3. Draft or amend laws to promote private enterprise, protect business interests, and facilitate major development projects.
