Mar 27, Kathmandu - Newly appointed Minister for Education, Science and Sports Sasmit Pokharel has vowed to completely end the politicization of sports and education. Taking charge of the ministry on Friday, he made it clear that political interference in the professional sector is the main reason for spoiling the working environment and stopping it will be his first priority.
Minister Pokharel emphasized that only experts and experienced players from the relevant fields should be in sports bodies, not politicians. "Nepal's problem is that politics is not happening where it should be, it is happening where it should not be," he said. "We plan to move forward by having only experts in all bodies, including the National Sports Council (NSC)."
Commenting on the long-standing dispute in the All Nepal Football Association (ANFA), Minister Pokharel said that excessive politicization is also the main reason for this. He argued that the development of football is possible only by separating ANFA and politics as two separate streams. He claims that collaboration with experts will be the backbone of his tenure to protect and develop the dignity of the sports sector.
Pokharel, who became a minister from the Rastriya Swatantra Party (RSP), expressed his commitment to initiate a process of reform in all those places where politicization has made it difficult to work professionally. His plan to end the practice of turning sports into a political arena and honor real players and experts has instilled new hope among sports lovers.
