Mar 28, Kathmandu - The Nepal Police Headquarters has issued an urgent directive to all police personnel to refrain from taking leave until further notice. Considering the current national situation, the Administrative Branch of the Police Headquarters circulated a circular on Saturday, emphasizing the need for police deployment across the country.

Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) Santosh Niraula, head of the Administrative Branch, instructed subordinate agencies that, except for maternity and funeral leaves, no other leaves should be granted or recommended. The circular states, “In view of the current circumstances requiring police deployment for security management, all leaves except for maternity and funeral reasons are to be withheld until further orders.”

In addition, the Police Headquarters has directed police officers currently on leave to return to duty immediately. The circular further requests officers on leave to make arrangements to report to their respective offices without delay, stating, “Officers on leave under the responsibility of the office chief must report to duty immediately.”

The Administrative Branch of the Police Headquarters has communicated this directive to the Commission for Investigation of Abuse of Authority, the Secretariat of the Inspector General of Nepal Police, all departments, bureaus, the National Police Training Academy, Kathmandu Valley Police Office, and all Provincial Police Offices.

This decision comes in the wake of the investigation report into the Jajani movement, leading to the arrest of former Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli and former Home Minister Ramesh Rijal early Saturday morning. The opposition party, CPN-UML, has staged protests nationwide in response to these arrests.
