High Court Hearing Underway on Rabi Lamichhane’s Legal Case Revision

Mar 29, Kathmandu - The Supreme Court is currently hearing a case involving Rabi Lamichhane, leader of the Rastriya Swatantra Party (RSP), regarding the revision of charges filed against him. The hearing is taking place before a joint bench of Justices Binod Sharma and Abdul Aziz Musalman.

Initially, former Attorney General Raman Kumar Shrestha is presenting his arguments in favor of Lamichhane. Following his arguments, the petitioner’s side will respond, and a decision is expected, possibly on the same day.

This legal dispute stems from directives issued by former Attorney General Sabita Bhandari Baral, who instructed the District Public Prosecutor’s Office to amend cases registered against Lamichhane in Kathmandu, Kaski, Parsa, and Rupandehi districts. These cases involve organized crime and money laundering charges, which have sparked controversy and legal debate.

Senior advocate Dinesh Tripathi, law student Aayush Badal, and youth leader Bhuwan Poudel from Sindhuli have filed petitions challenging Bhandari’s decision.

On Paush 30, Bhandari directed the District Prosecutor’s Office to proceed with only the cooperative fraud case against Lamichhane, asking for the organized crime and money laundering cases to be withdrawn through amendments.
