Balen Pledges to Expand the Capacity of Sahid Dasharath Chand Health Science University

Mar 31, Kathmandu - During his election campaign, Prime Minister Balendra Shah (Balen) expressed his unwavering commitment to the development of the Far-West region of Nepal. He emphasized that he is prepared to address the issues faced by districts in Sudurpaschim Province and is dedicated to their progress.

In discussions with the members of Parliament from Sudurpaschim Province, PM Shah reviewed development plans and initiatives. A key point raised was the expansion of the capacity of the Sahid Dasharath Chand Health Science University in Kailali. Parliamentarians urged the Prime Minister to enhance the hospital’s infrastructure from its current capacity of 100 beds to 300 beds to better serve the region.

Additionally, the MPs requested the allocation of seats for medical studies: 50 seats for MBBS, 30 for Nursing, 20 for BSc/MLT, and 20 for Ophthalmology. They also appealed for a budget of NPR 258 million in the upcoming fiscal year to facilitate these expansions.

A few days earlier, MP KP Khanal, elected from Kailali-2, had met with Education Minister Sasmit Pokhrel and the Secretary of the Ministry of Finance to discuss the upgrade of the university.

Prime Minister Balen assured his eagerness to upgrade and elevate the status of Sahid Dasharath Chand Health Science University. He reiterated his commitment to the development of Kailali and other districts in Sudurpaschim during his recent regional visits, affirming his focus on rapid progress for the area.
