Nepal Faces Challenges Returning 38 Dead Bodies from West Asia

Apr 03, Kathmandu - The Ministry of Foreign Affairs has expressed serious concerns over the difficulties in repatriating the bodies of approximately 38 Nepalese nationals who died due to various reasons amid flight disruptions caused by the ongoing conflict in West Asia.

During a press conference on Friday, Foreign Ministry spokesperson Lok Bahadur Thapa stated that the suspension of flights has complicated the process of bringing back the remains of nearly 38 Nepalese victims. He confirmed that nine bodies had already been transported from Kuwait Airlines on Chaitra 18 and that efforts are underway to retrieve the remaining bodies.

Since the outbreak of war in West Asia, around 86,000 Nepalese have registered for evacuation, but the number of those still in danger is gradually decreasing, Thapa added.

He also mentioned that Nepalese citizens are adhering to directives not to spread rumors on social media during the conflict. A few individuals have been detained for violating these rules, with reports indicating that eleven Nepalese have been apprehended so far.

Thapa reassured that all 11 Nepalese in Iran are safe and remain in contact with the Nepalese mission in Dushanbe.

Furthermore, he urged Nepalese who are in grave difficulty and wish to return home to contact the relevant embassies, assuring that necessary assistance is being provided. According to him, despite the war, there is no immediate threat to jobs for Nepalese in the region.
