Apr 04, Kathmandu - Nepali Congress leader and proportional representation MP Arjun Narsingh KC has accused party Chairman Gagan Kumar Thapa of attacking him and other leaders by labeling them with familial tags, specifically referencing his status as Thapa’s father-in-law.
In an interview with News Agency Nepal, KC stated that comments suggesting he gained prominence solely because of his relationship with Thapa do not bother him. He recalled his political journey beginning in 1976 when he distributed leaflets against King Mahendra’s coup, marking the start of his imprisonment and establishing his distinct identity within the party.
KC emphasized his contributions to the formation of the Nepali Congress and the institutionalization of democracy, dismissing those who only recognize him as Thapa’s father-in-law. He asserted that attempts to reduce his political identity to family ties are part of a conspiracy, comparing it to trivial matters like the Pashupati temple’s business.
He also criticized internal party efforts to limit his recognition to his familial connection with Thapa, condemning such tactics. Highlighting the contributions of senior leaders like former Prime Minister Girija Prasad Koirala, Shailaja Acharya, and Sushil Koirala, KC stressed that party members have earned their positions through their own efforts, and that basing criticism solely on family relationships is unjust.
