UML Leader Bamdev Gautam Urges PM Shah to Release K.P. Oli from Custody

Apr 04, Kathmandu - Central Member of the Nepali Communist Party, Bamdev Gautam, has publicly appealed to Prime Minister Pushpa Kamal Dahal to release former Prime Minister and CPN-UML Chairman K.P. Sharma Oli from detention.

Oli, aged 74 and reportedly in poor health, was detained recently. Gautam argued that subjecting an elderly and physically unwell leader to such hardship is inappropriate.

He criticized the manner of Oli’s arrest, describing the overnight house raid and immediate detention as a wrong decision. Gautam urged Prime Minister Dahal to rectify this mistake, emphasizing, “The allegations against K.P. Sharma Oli should have been thoroughly examined through evidence and legal procedures before any action was taken. Raiding his house at night and arresting him early in the morning was unjustified.”

Gautam also posed several questions to the Prime Minister in an open letter, questioning the treatment of Oli.

“Why is K.P. Sharma Oli, at the age of 74, being humiliated and kept in custody? Shouldn’t legal proceedings be based on verified facts from the court before taking such measures?” he asked, calling for a reconsideration of the approach taken against the seasoned politician.
