This time's Parliament must rise above the boundaries of party and opposition: Minister Gautam

Apr 05, Kathmandu - Law Minister and National Independent Party MP Sobita Gautam has said that this time's parliament must rise above the boundaries of party and opposition.

Speaking as a supporter of Speaker Dol Prasad Aryal in the meeting of the House of Representatives held on Sunday, she opined that it is necessary to take the parliament to a more mature state with a combination of MPs who have come to the parliament with new energy and elders with long parliamentary experience.

She said, "This time's parliament must rise above the boundaries of party and opposition. This parliament must focus on the people's issues. It must be solution-oriented and clearly result-oriented. There are also MPs who have come to the parliament with new energy and elders with long parliamentary experience. Who together must work towards making this parliament more mature."

Similarly, she said that if debate is limited to debate, people's trust will weaken, and she said that healthy debate is necessary in parliament.

"Democracy cannot be brought about by speeches and debate alone. The results of our discussions also give a message about whether they are meaningful or not. Therefore, healthy discussions are necessary. But if discussions remain limited to just discussions, people's trust will weaken. Therefore, this time's discussions should be meaningful, responsible and result-oriented,' she said.
