Apr 05, Kathmandu - Dol Prasad (DP) Aryal, the newly elected Speaker of the House of Representatives, took the oath of office. The ceremony was held on Chaitra 22, at Shilta Niwas, where President Ram Chandra Poudel administered the oath.
Aryal was elected unopposed to the position of Speaker on the same day. Since no other candidate filed nominations, senior member Arjun Narsingh KC, who was presiding over the session, announced his unopposed election.
Aryal, who won the election from Kathmandu-9 on Falgun 21, assumed the role of Speaker. He had previously served as a proportional representation MP in 2079 BS and also held the position of Minister of Labour, Employment, and Social Security.
Before becoming Speaker, Aryal was the Vice-Chairperson of the Rastriya Swatantra Party (RSP). He took over the party leadership when RSP leader Rabi Lamichhane was arrested in connection with a cooperative fraud case.
