Utsarg Raises Awareness about Maternal Health of Dwarf Women

Apr 07, Kathmandu - A socially impactful play titled 'Utsarg' is currently being staged at various locations across Kathmandu. The production, organized by the Dwarf Association of Nepal (DAN) in collaboration with local authorities, aims to shed light on crucial issues faced by women with short stature.

The play explores whether women with short stature can or cannot become mothers, addressing prevalent societal misconceptions. It seeks to raise awareness about reproductive health, family planning, and women's rights.

Organizers hope that 'Utsarg' will dispel lingering myths and prejudices surrounding the motherhood capabilities of dwarf women. The play aims to promote social awareness and challenge fears and misconceptions prevailing in society.

Featuring performances by Nischal Shrestha, Anita Thapa, Saru Dahal, Rajendra Giri, Riya Ghimire, Surya Khan, Lalu Maya Pakhrin, and Nishal Dulal, the play was written by Raju Khatiwada. Veteran director J.B. D.C., with over two decades of experience in theater, has directed the production.

After its successful run in Kathmandu, 'Utsarg' is scheduled to be performed in Pokhara and Hetauda, reaching wider audiences and continuing its mission to empower women and dispel societal myths.
