Labor Minister Shah dismissed: PM Shah takes action on the recommendation of the RSP

Apr 09, Kathmandu - Prime Minister Bishnu Prasad Shah has dismissed Labour, Employment, and Social Security Minister Deepak Kumar Shah on Thursday. The decision was made following recommendations from the Rastriya Swatantra Party (RSP), led by Chairman Rabi Lamichhane.

The controversy arose after Minister Shah was accused of misusing his position to benefit his wife. According to reports, Shah allegedly involved his wife, who has been inactive for a long time, in regular duties as a member of the Health Insurance Board, despite holding the ministerial office. This breach of ethical conduct prompted the party’s disciplinary body to investigate.

On the same day, RSP’s Central Disciplinary Committee submitted a detailed report to the party leadership, emphasizing that Shah’s actions tarnished the party’s image, principles, and discipline. Lamichhane stated that the party’s constitution explicitly mandates safeguarding its ideals and principles, and any misuse of power warrants immediate disciplinary action.

Based on the report and party regulations, Lamichhane recommended to Prime Minister Shah that Sah be relieved of his ministerial duties. The Prime Minister accepted this advice, and Dipa Dahal, a government spokesperson, confirmed Shah’s removal from office.

Furthermore, Lamichhane criticized Minister Nisha Mehta of Health and Population for not demonstrating the required seriousness in handling such sensitive issues. He advised the Prime Minister to caution Minister Mehta, which has reportedly been done.

This incident underscores the ongoing challenges of maintaining integrity and discipline within Nepal’s political landscape.
