CAN Expands Participation in Jay Trophy Elite Cup to Six Teams

Apr 10, Kathmandu - Cricket Association of Nepal (CAN) has announced an increase in the number of teams participating in the prestigious Jay Trophy Men’s Elite Cup. Starting this season, six teams will compete in the tournament, marking a significant expansion from previous years.

Previously, only the top four teams from the Prime Minister Cup One-Day National Cricket Tournament qualified for the Jay Trophy. Now, the top six teams will have the opportunity to showcase their talent in this esteemed competition.

In the recently concluded Jay Trophy held last month, Nepal Police Club clinched the title, adding to the tournament’s reputation as Nepal’s only multi-day cricket competition. The league stage of the tournament features a two-day format, while the final is played over three days.

The Jay Trophy is considered crucial for developing players for the longer format of the game and aims to help Nepal secure Test status. The expanded participation aims to enhance competitiveness and prepare players for international recognition in the future.
