Govt Bans Misleading Promotions by Training Centers and Cyber Centers Regarding Labor Certification

Apr 10, Kathmandu - Starting immediately, training centers and cyber centers are prohibited from advertising or promoting services with claims such as "Labor is conducted here" or "Labor approval work done here," the Foreign Employment Department announced. This ban comes in response to increasing complaints that such centers and cyber centers are misleading migrant workers, collecting illegal fees, and acting as intermediaries.

The department has issued strict directives to cease all promotional activities using the terms "labor" or "labor approval." Furthermore, all promotional materials such as banners, posters, flex boards, and wall writings related to these activities must be removed by the end of Chaitra. Businesses and cyber centers failing to comply within the specified timeframe will face legal action, the department warned.

Labor approval for workers going abroad is managed through the Foreign Employment Department and the respective Labor and Employment Offices in all seven provinces. Applicants are required to fill out online forms for labor certification. However, many cyber centers and businesses near the Tahachal office and local offices are offering to fill these forms for a fee, often claiming to have connections with department officials.

There have been increasing reports of these centers and businesses exploiting unaware workers by charging exorbitant fees, claiming close ties with department officials, and sometimes even acting as intermediaries or brokers. In response, the department has intensified its crackdown to curb such malpractice and protect migrant workers.
