Apr 10, Kathmandu - Gyan Bahadur Shahi, the leader of the parliamentary faction of the Rashtriya Prajatantra Party (RPP), disclosed that their decision to field a candidate for the Deputy Speaker position was contingent upon assurances from the ruling coalition led by Rastriya Swatantra Party (RSP) Chair Rabi Lamichhane.
During Friday’s session of the House of Representatives, Shahi proposed that Saraswati Lama be elected as the Deputy Speaker, citing internal consensus within their party to support her candidacy.
Shahi emphasized that the Deputy Speaker candidacy has shed light on the true character of both old and new political parties in Parliament. He remarked that the RPP's strategy revealed that, despite differences in party slogans, the fundamental policies and beliefs of the political spectrum remain aligned.
He further explained that their nomination was not merely about securing a parliamentary position but was also a stand against imported political systems and the influence of foreign powers in Nepal’s governance.
“After receiving assurances from the RSP Chairperson, we made a unanimous decision within our parliamentary party to support the Deputy Speaker candidate. Our move makes the political landscape clearer. While the slogans of old and new parties may differ, their core policies are interconnected. We are seeking genuine, indigenous governance and oppose the imported systems that currently dominate,” Shahi stated.
He concluded that their support for the Deputy Speaker was a broader protest against external influences and imported political models, signifying a push for authentic Nepali sovereignty.
