Apr 12, Kathmandu - Negotiations between the United States and Iran have ended without any agreement, according to US Vice President Kamala Harris. The talks, which lasted from Saturday afternoon until 5 a.m., concluded without concluding.
Speaking briefly at a press conference held at the Serena Hotel after the talks, Harris expressed disappointment over the lack of progress. "The sad part is that we have not yet reached an agreement," she said.
Harris, who led the US delegation, also revealed that Iran had rejected the American proposals. "They were not willing to accept our terms," she stated.
The Vice President emphasized that the specific terms of the negotiations would not be made public at this time. However, she made it clear that Washington seeks a firm and clear commitment from Tehran that Iran will not develop nuclear weapons or the necessary infrastructure for such weapons.
The US has maintained a strict stance regarding Iran's nuclear program, and Harris's comments suggest that stopping Iran from developing nuclear weapons remains Washington's top priority.
Following the press conference, Harris declined to clarify the next steps or comment on the future of the ongoing talks, especially questions concerning the Strait of Hormuz and the potential for future conflict.
As the US and Iran continue to be at an impasse, experts warn that the future of the current temporary ceasefire remains uncertain, with the New York Times highlighting concerns about escalating tensions.
