Nepali Karate Star Erica Gurung Wins Silver at Karate One Premier League 2026 in China

Apr 12, Kathmandu - Nepali karate sensation Erica Gurung secured a silver medal at the Karate One Premier League 2026 held in China.

On Sunday, Erica faced off against Kazakhstan's Sofia Berutseva in the gold medal match. Despite a fierce competition, Erica narrowly missed out on gold after losing 2-1 in the final.

This isn't Erica's first encounter with Sofia; she also competed against her in the final of the Karate One Premier League in Turkey, where she was defeated. Unfortunately, Erica couldn't avenge her previous loss this time either.

Earlier, Erica made it to the finals by defeating Italy's Feraquotti Clea 8-3 in the semi-finals. Her journey to the podium has been marked by consistent performances under the guidance of national team coach Kushal Shrestha.

Currently ranked 11th in the world according to the global karate rankings, Erica has been steadily improving over the past two years. She made history by winning a silver medal at the Asian Games in China in 2023.

Her impressive medal tally also includes gold and silver medals at the 2024 US Open International Karate Championship, a gold at the Australian Open Karate Championship, and a bronze at the Morocco Karate-1 Premier League.

Erica Gurung continues to shine on the international stage, showcasing Nepal's rising talent in karate.
