Apr 12, Kathmandu - Pokhara’s tourist hub, Fewa Lake, kicked off the 21st edition of the Fewa New Year Festival on Sunday, welcoming the Nepali New Year 2083 with grandeur and cultural splendor.
The festival was inaugurated by Chief District Officer Rudradevi Sharma, who highlighted the event's significance in promoting continuous and sustainable cultural celebrations. “Pokhara is an important city historically, culturally, and as a tourist destination,” Sharma stated. “Among the various festivals celebrated here, the Nepali New Year holds a special place with its unique importance and identity.”
Prior to the festival’s official start, a colorful procession featuring cultural tableaux and traditional music and dance was held, reflecting Nepal’s rich diversity and unity. Sharma emphasized that such artistic displays embody the nation’s cultural roots and foster a spirit of togetherness.
Senior Vice President Praveen Bahadur Pandey of the Hotel Association Nepal-Pokhara emphasized Pokhara’s role in boosting domestic and regional tourism. The festival, which runs until Tuesday along the road between Shahid Chowk and Khehre, is expected to attract a large number of visitors throughout the year.
Organized by the Pokhara chapter of the Hotel Association Nepal, the festival aims to celebrate the Nepali New Year with enthusiasm and cultural fervor, concluding with a series of vibrant performances.
Participants can enjoy traditional dance performances from all seven provinces, along with cultural shows, a Panchabaja musical concert, and exciting activities like a tourist run competition. Additionally, hotels participating in the festival are offering up to 25% discounts on their services to encourage visitors to explore Pokhara’s hospitality.
As the evening sets in, the festival will come alive with cultural displays, musical performances, and a lively atmosphere, making it a memorable celebration of Nepal’s rich heritage and tourism potential.
