Police Confirm 28-Year-Old Development Officer's Murder in Birgunj; Four Suspects Arrested

Apr 13, Kathmandu - Authorities have confirmed that the individual murdered in Birgunj on Sunday was Development Officer Bikash Chaurasiya, who was also a police personnel.

During the investigation, police identified Bikash as a serving police constable. Originally from Kalikamai Rural Municipality Ward No. 1 in Parsa district, Bikash was working at the Saptari District Police Office. He was visiting his family on leave when he was tragically killed on Sunday.

Four individuals have been detained in connection with the incident. The suspects include 26-year-old Santosh Shah and 24-year-old Soni Kumari — a married couple who rented the room where Bikash was killed — along with 19-year-old Bishal Shah from Mahagadhimai Municipality Ward No. 7 in Bara, and an Indian national, Om Bir Prajapati.

According to locals, the couple was involved in the attack. They reportedly played loud music and assaulted Bikash inside the rented room. Witnesses recount that a child sleeping nearby heard commotion and saw several people beating one individual from the balcony of their house.

However, because the suspects locked the door from inside, local residents couldn’t reach Bikash in time. Despite their pleas, the suspects refused to open the door, prompting locals to alert the police. When police arrived, the door was open, and the suspects were caught after being chased and detained by local youth who had suspected their involvement.

Superintendent of Police Hari Bahadur Basnet, spokesperson for the District Police Office of Parsa, stated that further investigation is ongoing.

“We are questioning the suspects about why Bikash was targeted and how the murder was carried out. We are working to uncover all details,” said DSP Basnet.
