Corruption Case Filed Against Former Administrative Chief of Gurans Village Municipality and Contractor in Kathmandu

Apr 13, Kathmandu - The Commission for Investigation of Abuse of Authority (CIAA) has filed a corruption case in a special court in Kathmandu against Deepak Kumar Acharya, the former Chief Administrative Officer of Gurans Rural Municipality in Dailekh, and Subhas Karki, a director of R.K. Construction Company in Surkhet.

The commission has determined a loss of NPR 2,244,500 to the government in this case. Acharya is accused of misconduct under Section 17 of the Anti-Corruption Act 2059, with a demand for recovery of the loss along with criminal charges including imprisonment and fines. Similarly, Karki is charged with illicitly gaining money and other benefits through corrupt activities, also amounting to NPR 2,244,500, under the same act.

According to CIAA spokesperson Suresh Nyaupane, the case alleges that Acharya committed misconduct as per the provisions of the Anti-Corruption Act, seeking penalties including imprisonment and fines. Karki is accused of illicitly obtaining cash and other benefits through corrupt practices, with charges under Sections 17 and 22 of the Act.

The agency has demanded appropriate punishment for the main offender under the provisions of Section 22, which includes penalties for illegal gains obtained through corrupt activities.
