Foreign Minister Khanal Returns Home

Apr 13, Kathmandu - Nepali Foreign Minister Shishir Khanal has stated that no final decision has been made regarding Prime Minister Balendra Shah's upcoming visit to India.

During a press briefing at Tribhuvan International Airport after returning from Mauritius, Khanal shared that an invitation for the visit had been received from the Indian side but emphasized that the date and formal arrangements are yet to be finalized.

Khanal also mentioned that he received a congratulatory message from Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi alongside the invitation. He highlighted that Nepal and India share over 40 bilateral mechanisms, some of which are active while others are dormant. Efforts are underway to reactivate these mechanisms and complete necessary technical preparations.

This development indicates that technical coordination and preparations will be prioritized before any high-level diplomatic visit.

Khanal traveled to Mauritius on Chaitra 27 to participate in the 9th Indian Ocean Conference. During his stay, he held a sideline meeting with Indian Foreign Minister S. Jaishankar, where initial discussions on bilateral issues were reportedly exchanged.
