Apr 14, Kathmandu - In a move to enhance connectivity and promote sustainable transportation, Pokhara International Airport has introduced a new electric bus service connecting the airport to Amarsingh Chowk. The service, operated by the Pokhara Metropolitan City, is initially free until Ashadha, after which a minimal fare will be implemented based on the service's effectiveness.
The bus service is managed by two vehicles under the Pokhara Metropolitan Transport Bus Corporation, in partnership with Canmona Service Development Bank and Agriculture Development Bank. According to Moti Timsina, the spokesperson for the metropolis, the project cost is estimated at around 1.7 million Nepali Rupees until Ashadha.
Available from the first flight in the morning until the last flight in the evening, the two modern, fully electric buses aim to provide a comfortable and affordable alternative to taxis, which have been a source of complaints due to high fares and late-night inconveniences. Each bus is valued at approximately 1.24 crore Nepali Rupees.
This initiative aligns with Pokhara's vision to become a smart and green city by encouraging electric mobility and easing travel for passengers arriving at or departing from the airport. The program was inaugurated by Mayor Dhanraj Acharya during a ceremony on Tuesday.
