Four Indian Nationals Caught Smuggling 6.18 kg of Cannabis at Birgunj Border

Apr 21, Kathmandu - Authorities at Birgunj border have apprehended four Indian nationals with a significant stash of cannabis. The individuals were caught walking on foot while attempting to cross from Nepal into India, with the illegal substance concealed on their bodies.

Identified as Safi Ahmad (35) from Bettiah, West Champaran, Bihar; Vinay Thakur (33) from Majhaulia; Mukim Mia (30) from Naurangabad; and Muhammad Ekbal (28) from Meena Bazar, all were stopped at Shankaracharya Gate in Birgunj for a routine check on Monday.

During the search, police found 6.18 kilograms of cannabis wrapped in plastic and strapped to their bodies, specifically in their stomach and chest areas, according to the Parsa District Police Office.

The four individuals are currently in custody, and police are conducting further investigations into the drug smuggling attempt, said Deputy Superintendent of Police Hari Bhakta Basnet.
