Apr 21, Kathmandu - Sunsari-1 Member of Parliament and leader of the Shram Sanskriti Party, Harka Sampang, has voiced opposition to the government's ban on political student organizations in universities. Speaking to journalists and YouTubers on Tuesday, Sampang clarified that although his party does not have a student organization, he stands against the prohibition.
He stated, “It must be handled wisely. There should be some limitations. We do not have a student organization under the Shram Sanskriti Party and have no plans to create one. We do not support using campuses as platforms for protests.”
Sampang emphasized that if proper rules are established, a ban is unnecessary, adding, “We are all people who share rice together. Students are an educated group of people.”
Expressing his differing opinion on the ban, Sampang pointed out that the current government was formed through student movements. His comments came at a time when his voice has been less prominent on social media, especially after a Facebook page associated with him was taken down.
In a different context, Sampang also remarked that Nepal itself is a nation built on movements, and advised MPs not to engage in protests themselves.
