Apr 23, Kathmandu - Health workers at the Karnali Institute of Health Sciences have stopped all services except for emergencies in protest against abuse against health workers. They have stopped all services except for emergencies, demanding security guarantees.

Health workers at the institute have demanded security guarantees, alleging that health workers were abused and threatened by consuming alcohol and weapons on the hospital premises.

Health workers have said that some people entered the institute on Wednesday morning in the name of social activists and abused and threatened the employees, and also entered the cafeteria on the premises of the academic building and mistreated the employees there.

In the petition submitted to the Vice Chancellor by the employees and doctors of the institute, it is stated that, 'On Wednesday morning at around 9:45 am, some people in the name of social activists went to various departments of the institute on the premises of the Karnali Institute of Health Sciences and abused and threatened the employees. In this connection, they entered the cafeteria on the premises of the academic building and mistreated the employees there.'

After the incident, the person entered the hospital premises again at around 3:50 pm and tried to threaten, behave aggressively and spread fear among the staff on duty, health workers said.

They have demanded that the concerned bodies take responsibility for the safety of the staff and doctors working within the hospital premises and that necessary legal action be taken against the person involved in the incident.

The health workers have taken necessary action and have stopped all services except emergency and inter-services until security is guaranteed.
