RPP Parliamentary Leader Gyanendra Shahi Expresses Dissatisfaction with Local Government Structure and Functioning

Apr 26, Kathmandu - In a statement, Rastriya Prajatantra Party (RPP) parliamentary leader and Member of Parliament Gyanendra Shahi voiced his discontent with the current structure and functioning of local governments.

Speaking at the ‘Samvad Express’ program organized by News Express on Sunday, Shahi criticized the necessity for local administrative officers to seek appointments through federal ministers. He accused the local-level parties of turning recruitment centers into entities primarily for hiring their own workers.

Shahi stated, “Today, the appointment of local administrative officers requires approaching federal government ministers, which is a hindrance. Local-level parties have turned into recruitment centers for their workers. In a rural municipality, there are between 200-300 employees. If the budget is 20 crore rupees, then at least 10 crore goes towards salaries. If everyone is colluding to loot, then what is the purpose of such a system? Who is regulating the local levels?”

He emphasized the importance of the current government effectively running the parliament and urged the ruling side not to avoid parliamentary proceedings.

“Let’s bring the bills, hold discussions. There is a problem of landless people. The government has legally integrated fake landless individuals, and we have openly appreciated this. However, the real landless citizens are also residents of this country,” he added.
