Squatters Arrive at the Dasharath Stadium to Register their Names

Apr 26, Kathmandu - Following the government's and Kathmandu Metropolitan City's recent demolition drives in squatter settlements, residents have started registering their names for identification purposes. Since Saturday, local residents of squatter settlements have been lining up at Dasharath Stadium with citizenship documents to get their names registered.

However, an interesting development has emerged: besides the houses that have been demolished with bulldozers, many other squatters who still reside in the settlements have also come to Dasharath Stadium for registration.

"A few people claiming to live in Kathmandu without any property ownership have been found here. We now cannot determine who is a genuine squatter and who is not. That is why we are registering their names," said an official present at Dasharath Stadium.

According to him, the process of identifying and verifying genuine squatters is ongoing, which is why many residents have come to Dasharath Stadium. The current situation is not final, and the authorities are conducting thorough checks to distinguish authentic squatters from others.
