Government Launches Crackdown on Illegal Use of Official Vehicles, Reclaims Over 600 Vehicles

Apr 28, Kathmandu - The Office of the Prime Minister and Council of Ministers has initiated an extensive campaign to recover government vehicles being used illegally. Following an internal investigation conducted through the Prime Minister’s Secretariat, a total of 622 vehicles have been retrieved so far.

According to Deputy Chief of the Prime Minister’s Press Secretariat, Deepa Dahal, government officials and staff from various agencies have been identified using official vehicles contrary to established guidelines and based on access privileges. “Vehicles used in violation of laws and procedures are being gradually reclaimed. The process is ongoing,” sources said.

The government has described this initiative as a move to curb the misuse of public resources. For years, concerns have been raised over the abuse of government vehicles, including their use for personal purposes and unauthorized benefits.

This step aims to streamline government vehicle management, reduce expenses, and enhance transparency. The government also indicated that strict enforcement of vehicle use policies will be implemented in the future, with disciplinary action against violators.

Analysts view this campaign as a significant signal towards administrative reforms, reflecting the government’s commitment to accountability and good governance.
