Ram Bahadur Bomjan Acquitted of Money Laundering Charges

May 03, Kathmandu - Ram Bahadur Bomjan, accused of money laundering, has been acquitted by the district court of Sarlahi. Judge Mahendra Raj Kafle's bench on Baisakh 8 ruled that the evidence against Bamjan was insufficient to establish his guilt.

Previously, Bomjan was charged after the Central Investigation Bureau (CIB) apprehended him in Boudhikali with a large sum of money, leading to allegations of money laundering. Additionally, Bamjan faced charges related to child sexual abuse and disappearance of individuals. The High Court in Janakpur cleared him of the child abuse charges on Chaitra 6, 2081, after which he was released from prison.

Earlier, the Sarlahi District Court had sentenced Bamjan to 10 years in prison and fined him 5 lakh rupees on June 17, 2081. He had appealed this verdict to the High Court.

Bamjan also faces allegations of abducting a disciple from an ashram in Sindhupalchok, but that case has not yet been registered in court. After remaining a fugitive for a prolonged period, the CIB arrested him from Boudhikali on Poush 24, 2080.
