May 05, Kathmandu - President Ram Chandra Poudel has officially issued the ordinance related to the Constitutional Council, ending a period of intense political debate and deliberation.
Earlier, the government had submitted eight ordinances, including the one concerning the Constitutional Council, for the President’s approval. While the President initially approved seven of these ordinances, he returned the ordinance related to the Constitutional Council for reconsideration, signaling its significance in political circles.
In a subsequent development, the Council of Ministers convened on Monday and re-approved the ordinance without any amendments, forwarding it back to the President. Acting swiftly, President Paudel issued the ordinance the following day.
This ordinance is seen as a critical move with direct implications on the appointment processes and decision-making systems within constitutional bodies. While the ruling parties argue that the ordinance is essential for legal clarity, opposition parties have criticized it, claiming it undermines constitutional principles.
The move is expected to intensify political debates over how appointments to constitutional bodies will proceed in the future, with questions surrounding the ordinance’s impact on constitutional values and governance.
