Tourist Vehicles Arriving by Land can now be Registered Online

May 05, Kathmandu - The government has launched an online service to facilitate Indian tourists and tourists from other countries entering Nepal via India.

The Customs Department under the Ministry of Finance has developed and launched a system that allows foreign vehicles entering Nepal via land to fill in their details and pay revenue online.

Finance Minister Dr. Swarnim Wagle launched the system. With the launch of the new system, Indian and third-country tourists entering Nepal with vehicles will now be able to pay their details and revenue online.

Earlier, there was a provision that such vehicles had to physically obtain temporary permits by coming to the customs checkpoint. During their trip to Nepal, they had to go to the customs checkpoint for renewal or pay a fine.

However, with the launch of the new online system, tourists entering Nepal can now fill out their vehicle licenses online from home and pay online and travel without any hassle.

Launching the new online facilitation service, Finance Minister Wagle said that the hardship faced by tourists in the border areas will now be eliminated.

‘This work has been started in the course of implementing the government’s announcement to provide good governance and fast quality public services,’ said Finance Minister Wagle. ‘We want tourists to have no difficulty and government services to be fast and efficient.’

Director General of the Department of Customs Shyam Prasad Mainali said that the permits for foreign vehicles carrying tourists entering Nepal have now become digital.

According to him, now passengers and tourists entering Nepal can declare details of foreign vehicles through online. This will make the process more transparent and effective.

Such tourist-carrying vehicles can also pay the revenue to the Nepal government online or from a bank counter. He said that vehicles that have paid online can enter Nepal by showing the QR code received in their email at the customs.

The department has stated that tourist-carrying vehicles can reach their destination by carrying the QR code received in this way.

According to the department, even if such vehicles have expired, they can extend their travel period online from their current address in Nepal. To avail all these services, one has to go to the website of the Customs Department and click on the TIV title under the Our Services heading and fill in the details online.

After updating all the details, the customer finally receives a QR code that opens all the details. Based on that, the vehicle can enter Nepal by paying the fee they have to pay. Such vehicles can travel on roads across Nepal by showing the same QR code.

According to the department, the Temporary Import Vehicle (TIV) module has been developed to provide convenience to foreign citizens entering Nepal through the Nepal National Single Window System.

The Customs Department has clarified that for the time being, this service has been implemented for vehicles used by Indian and third-country tourists entering Nepal.

The department has stated that this service is also available for tourists who are currently entering Nepal with Chinese vehicles via land routes through the Chinese border, and if they do, this service is also available for them. The department believes that tourists from India and Bangladesh will benefit from this service for the time being.
