May 10, Kathmandu - Russian President Vladimir Putin has expressed concerns that the ongoing conflict involving Iran has put Russia in a difficult position. Speaking to journalists on Saturday, Putin indicated that the current hostilities are expected to end soon, but warned that if peace is not achieved, all parties will suffer.
He emphasized, “This is a very complex conflict that has placed us in challenging circumstances because our relations with Iran and the Persian Gulf countries are friendly.” Regarding ongoing negotiations between Iran and the United States, Putin stated, “In my view, none of the parties are interested in escalating this conflict.”
Recently, Iran’s Foreign Minister Abdollahian met with President Putin during his visit to Russia. Russia has called for peace among all involved parties and has also expressed readiness to mediate between Iran and the US.
Meanwhile, Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) has issued a strong warning to the United States. The IRGC Navy posted on social media that any attack on Iranian oil tankers or commercial ships in the Persian Gulf or the Strait of Hormuz will trigger a major retaliation against American bases and military vessels. The IRGC Aerospace Force also announced that its missiles and drones are already stationed against US targets and are awaiting orders to strike.
According to reports from the Wall Street Journal, the US has prepared a 14-point draft for negotiations with Iran, with Tehran currently reviewing the proposal. US President Donald Trump stated on Saturday that discussions with Iran are ongoing, and an Iranian response is expected soon. However, Iran’s Foreign Ministry spokesperson, Ismail Bagheri, said that Iran is still reviewing the US proposal and will respond at an appropriate time, adding, “We do not accept the US timeline; Iran will handle its affairs in its own way.”
Iran has also drafted a bill to regulate foreign ships passing through the Strait of Hormuz, which proposes banning Israeli and US ships from entering and imposing taxes on other foreign vessels.
Despite a brief pause in hostilities after a joint US-Israel attack on Iran in February, clashes between US and Iranian naval forces continue in the Strait of Hormuz. Reports also suggest that the US and Iran are preparing for a second round of negotiations in Pakistan.
Meanwhile, Iran has convened its first parliamentary session since the conflict erupted, with the meeting scheduled for today.
