May 10, Kathmandu - Kathmandu Valley police have recovered 65 stolen motorcycles and scooters from various locations within the valley and returned them to their rightful owners. The recovered vehicles include 45 motorcycles and 20 scooters, which were handed over during a ceremony held at the Valley Traffic Police Office on Sunday.
During the event, Office Chief and Senior Superintendent of Police Navaraj Adhikari highlighted the rising incidents of motorcycle and scooter thefts in the valley and emphasized that special strategies have been implemented to curb this trend.
He explained that a dedicated undercover team has been actively conducting surveillance, searches, and intelligence-based operations across different areas of Kathmandu Valley. Most of the stolen vehicles were found to have had their registration numbers altered and were being used in various parts of the city. Some were also detected to be in the final stages of sale preparation.
According to police reports, several individuals involved in the thefts have been arrested, while efforts are ongoing to apprehend others. Many vehicle owners expressed their happiness and gratitude, especially those who had lost their bikes long ago and had almost given up hope of recovery.
The police have urged citizens to stay vigilant to prevent vehicle thefts, recommending the use of secure parking facilities, double-lock systems, and avoiding lending vehicles to strangers. They also emphasized adopting necessary safety precautions.
Police officials noted that recent advancements in CCTV surveillance, digital technology, and specialized monitoring teams have significantly increased the recovery rate of stolen vehicles. The Kathmandu Valley Traffic Police has assured the public that they will continue to intensify efforts to control vehicle thefts and enhance recovery operations in the coming days.
