Supreme Court's to government: Short-term interim order not to ban trade unions

May 11, Kathmandu - The Supreme Court has struck down two major decisions by the Balendra Shah-led government. The court issued a short-term interim order against the government's ban on student organizations, ruling in favor of the trade unions affiliated with civil service employees.

The constitutional bench of the Supreme Court on Monday halted the government's decision to ban trade unions, citing their proximity to political parties, through an interim injunction. The court also issued a notice to the government to provide reasons before proceeding further, and has scheduled a hearing to discuss whether an interim order should be maintained or lifted, inviting both parties to present their arguments.
