May 12, Kathmandu - The Non-Resident Nepali Association (NRNA) has expressed its positive outlook on the government’s newly unveiled policies and programs for the fiscal year 2083/84. In a statement released today by spokesperson Somnath Sapkota, the association praised the inclusiveness and forward-looking approach of the government's initiatives.
President Ram Chandra Poudel’s presentation of the policy and program in a joint session of Parliament on Monday has been hailed as a significant and positive step in prioritizing non-resident Nepali communities.
“The formal recognition of the contributions, skills, knowledge, and potential of millions of Nepalis working across the globe, and integrating them into national development, is a commendable move,” the statement reads.
Highlighting key initiatives, the NRN emphasized the government’s plans to establish a ‘Diaspora Knowledge Network’ and a ‘Knowledge Bank,’ which aim to connect Nepali expatriates’ capital, skills, experience, and international networks with Nepal’s social and economic growth. These efforts have instilled renewed hope and confidence among the diaspora community.
“The recognition that Nepalese abroad are not just sources of remittance but also carriers of knowledge, innovation, entrepreneurship, and international expertise is a positive development,” the statement added.
The association also expressed confidence that programs aimed at reforming the capital market, regulating securities, restructuring NEPSE and clearing systems, expanding institutional investments, developing bond markets, and strengthening risk management will create an investor-friendly environment, laying a foundation for long-term economic stability and transformation.
Furthermore, the government’s commitment to safeguarding expatriates’ investments, ensuring transparency, and facilitating easy repatriation of returns is expected to motivate more Nepalese abroad to invest in Nepal.
NRNA also highlighted the importance of strengthening policies and legal frameworks related to citizenship, financial access, investment security, and democratic rights for non-resident Nepalese.
