May 14, Kathmandu - Chinese President Xi Jinping has called on the United States to view China not as a rival but as a partner. Speaking ahead of nearly two hours of high-level talks with U.S. President Donald Trump in Beijing, Xi emphasized the importance of cooperation between the two nations.
In response, President Trump depicted Xi as a great leader, expressing optimism about the future of the relationship between the two superpowers. "China and America will have an even better relationship than before. Our future is bright. I have great respect for China," Trump said. "I appreciate the work you have done. You are a great leader, and I tell everyone that. Sometimes I don’t feel like saying it, but I do."
Trump highlighted the long-standing ties between the two countries, stating, "We have known each other for a long time. This is actually the longest relationship between any presidents of our countries. It’s an honor for me. Our relationship is fantastic. We have worked well together," he told Xi Jinping during their bilateral meeting. "Whenever challenges arose, we found solutions. I would call you, and you would call me. Whenever there was a problem, we resolved it quickly, and we are moving towards a bright future together."
He further noted that his delegation included some of the world's biggest and most prestigious business leaders. "They are eager to engage in trade and commerce. It will be mutually beneficial," Trump added. "I am very eager for our discussions. This is a significant summit. Many are calling it the biggest summit so far."
