Asset Verification Authority Calls on Public Officials to Declare Assets Within a Month

May 14, Kathmandu - In a recent notice issued on Thursday, Baishakh 31, the Asset Investigation Commission has directed public officials and their family members to disclose their asset details within one month. The commission has requested disclosures of assets held within Nepal and abroad, covering public officials since 2062 BS.

The commission encouraged the public to report any illegal accumulation of wealth by public officials and also invited complaints regarding assets acquired through corruption or other criminal activities.

According to the notice, political leaders and employees holding public responsibilities are required to reveal their unexpected earnings and assets. The commission also asked for details of suspicious individuals, including their assets, contact numbers, and email addresses, which can be submitted via postal mail or email. The identities and details provided in the complaints will be kept confidential.

The directive applies to a broad range of officials, including current and former Prime Ministers, Ministers, Supreme Court Justices, judges, members of Parliament, constitutional bodies, military and police officials, provincial assembly members, local government heads, Reserve Bank governors, university and institutional officials, as well as advisors and staff of the Prime Minister, President, and Vice President.

Initially, the commission will scrutinize officials who have served from the fiscal year 2062/63 to 2082/83 (2005-2026 AD). All targeted officials are instructed to submit their asset declarations within one month, covering their holdings domestically and internationally.
