May 14, Kathmandu - In a move to address long-standing housing issues, Hari Dhakal, Chairperson of the State Affairs and Good Governance Committee under the House of Representatives, announced that the government is preparing to provide a monthly rent allowance of Rs. 15,000 to homeless and landless squatters for temporary accommodation.
Dhakal shared this information during a committee meeting when officials from the Ministry of Urban Development and the Federal Affairs and General Administration Ministry sought updates on the progress of squatters’ management.
The government has initiated a screening process to identify homeless individuals residing in various holding centers in Kathmandu, aiming to expedite the distribution of land titles through a fast-track process.
Prioritizing long-term solutions, the government has expressed its commitment to systematically managing the housing needs of the homeless and landless populations.
