May 18, Kathmandu - The box office performance of three Nepali films released simultaneously on Baishakh 25 has been publicly disclosed.
According to the report released by the Film Development Board on Monday, the film Lalibazar, starring Swastima Khadka, has performed well commercially.
Lalibazar has grossed NPR 34,261,779 (approximately 3.42 million rupees) as of Jestha 2. Over nine days, the film has been watched by 114,468 viewers.
Similarly, the film Malati Mangle, starring Barsha Raut and Bijay Baral, has earned NPR 4,478,608 (around 447,860 rupees). During this period, a total of 13,890 tickets have been sold for the film.
Another film, 'Guru Aama', has grossed NPR 2,844,451 (about 284,445 rupees) with 8,974 tickets sold.
Both Lalibazar and Malati Mangle faced protests prior to their release. However, strong word-of-mouth publicity appears to have boosted Lalibazar’s performance. The number of viewers and showings increased during the second weekend, especially on Saturday and Sunday, compared to the first week.
Directed by Yam Thapa, Lalibazar is based on the struggles faced by women in the Badi community. The film features performances by Swastima Khadka, Ravindra Singh Baniya, Samaira Thapa, Mukunda Kumar Shrestha, Bishal Devkota, and Prashansa Subedi.
Malati Mangle is a love story with Barsha Raut and Bijay Baral in the lead roles. The film, written by Samyog Guraigai and directed by Praku Pandey, is based on a story by the same author. It is the debut production of singer Ram Krishna Dhakal.
Guru Ama is an educational-themed film featuring actors Mithila Sharma, Gauri Malla, Pooja Sharma, Budhi Tamang, Sushil Pokhrel, Dhruv Koirala, and Uttam K.C.
