Govt to Provide Rs 25,000 for Rehabilitation of those Displaced from Squatter Settlements

May 19, Kathmandu - In a move to support those displaced from squatter settlements along riverbanks, the government has announced a financial aid of Rs. 25,000 per family.

During a cabinet meeting held on Tuesday, Minister Spokesperson Sasmit Pokharel shared that the government has decided to provide a one-time compensation of Rs. 25,000 to families displaced due to the clearance of risky settlements along the riverside in Kathmandu Valley.

“The families displaced as a result of removing risky settlements along the riverbanks will be identified, and Rs. 25,000 will be provided to each family as restoration assistance,” Pokharel stated.

Additionally, the cabinet decided to encourage displaced residents to arrange their own alternative housing. To support this, families of up to five members will receive a monthly allowance of Rs. 15,000, with an extra Rs. 2,000 for each additional family member.

The meeting also approved accepting grants from Switzerland and China.
