Women's Team Leaves for India to play SAFF, Minister Pokharel bids Farewell

May 21, Kathmandu - Education and Sports Minister Sasmita Pokharel bid farewell to the Nepalese national women's football team, which is preparing to depart for India to participate in the SAFF Women's Championship. During the farewell ceremony on Thursday, Minister Pokharel acknowledged that the state has yet to do enough in the sports sector.

Speaking at the event, the minister admitted that despite self-criticism, the government has not provided adequate respect and facilities to athletes. He emphasized that, with limited resources and means, efforts to develop sports and honor athletes will continue.

“The state has not done enough for our athletes through self-criticism. We haven't been able to give sports the respect it deserves. Despite limited resources, we are committed to developing sports and increasing respect for our athletes,” he stated.

He also praised the athletes for representing the country proudly and raising the national flag with pride. Expressing optimism about the upcoming competition, Minister Pokharel said, “It’s a game, anything can happen. We don’t necessarily have to win, but our confidence is strong. Nepal believes in its ability to win this match.”

Furthermore, he assured that the government is making efforts to increase investment in the development of sports.
