Four-Day Basic Training on Building Information Modeling (BIM) Begins in Lalitpur to Revolutionize Engineering Practices

May 21, Kathmandu - Lalitpur kicks off a four-day foundational training on Building Information Modeling (BIM), organized jointly by the Structural Engineers Association Nepal and Nepal Building Information Forum.

Inaugurating the training, Arjun Jung Thapa, Member of the National Planning Commission, emphasized the importance of recognizing how structural, mechanical, and architectural engineers can collaborate effectively from the outset. He highlighted that such training will contribute significantly to innovative and efficient structural design.

“Through this training, addressing technical weaknesses is crucial. Workshops like these are highly effective in enhancing technical skills. They will guide us on how to incorporate new technologies into designing attractive and impactful structures,” Thapa stated.

Prakand Thuladhar, Head of the Urban Infrastructure Technology Research and Training Center under the Ministry of Infrastructure Development, expressed the view that projects adhering to BIM standards will lead to better construction outcomes. Kishor Gautam, Director of Himalaya College of Engineering, also voiced confidence that such training in engineering colleges will have positive impacts, emphasizing the importance of continuous professional development through workshops and specialized training.

Krisnasingh Basnet, President of the association, shared the organization’s vision to strengthen the engineering society by leveraging experienced engineers’ insights and achieving significant advancements in structural frameworks.

Sanjiv Shah, former President of the Structural Engineers Association Nepal, highlighted that since its establishment in 2002, the industry has seen less competition from software advancements. Now, with the rapid adoption of new technologies, he stressed the need for engineers to enhance their skills through effective training.

The program also featured insights from Dr. Harilochan Shrestha, founder Mahesh Karki, and Secretary Dr. Bharat Pradhan, who expressed confidence that practical group exercises during the training will make it more impactful.
