May 24, Kathmandu - In the past 24 hours, Kathmandu Valley traffic police conducted inspections at various locations, resulting in action against 1,922 traffic offenders and collecting fines totaling NPR 1.97 million.
During the crackdown, violations included driving under the influence of narcotics, ride-sharing violations, running red lights, speeding, lane crossing, sidewalk driving, honking bans, one-way violations, and other infractions. Traffic Police Chief of the Valley and Senior Superintendent of Police Navaraj Adhikari provided this information.
The police emphasized that operating vehicles under the influence of drugs is illegal and punishable. They urged passengers and motorists to report suspected drug use by drivers immediately via the hotline numbers 103 and 100 at nearby police stations or traffic control rooms.
Additionally, five drivers were detained for driving under the influence of substances during a special crackdown in Thali, Kathmandu. This operation was part of ongoing efforts to reduce road accidents and ensure safer public transportation. The joint team, including technical experts from Nepal Police Hospital, Narcotics Control Bureau, and Thali Traffic Division, conducted thorough tests on drivers.
Among those detained were two bus drivers, one minitruck driver, one light vehicle driver, and one elephant van driver. Kathmandu Valley Traffic Police Spokesperson and Deputy Superintendent of Police Naresh Raj Subedi confirmed that preliminary health and substance tests verified drug use among the drivers.
